The history of Traditional Thai Medicine begins with the land known today as Thailand, previously known as Siam.
The origin of every traditional medicine system starts with the land and its environment- Nature.
What makes traditional systems of medicine around the world different and unique is the fact that the land, climate, plants and diseases are different and unique all around the globe.
The ancient kingdom of Siam ( nowadays Thailand), bordered south by Malaysia, West by Burma, East by Cambodia, North by Lao and right in the center of the trading route between China and India exposed the territory to many influences.
Predominantly a Buddhist culture, the primary figurehead in traditional Thai medicine is the Buddha as he is viewed as the the ultimate physician and Dhamma ( his teachings) the ultimate healing tool to eradicate suffering. So Thai Medicine is inherently Buddhist Medicine.
Thai Massage is part of one of the five branches that make Traditional Thai Medicine.
These branches are:
Internal Medicine ( herbology )
External Medicine ( Reusi Dat Ton, Thai Massage, Acupressure, Tok Sen, Scraping, medicated oils, herbal compresses, balms, liniments….)
These branches are weaved together by Buddhist principles and Five Element theory creating a unique, comprehensive system of healing wisdom.
As a natural medicine, it uses the Five Element theory to understand individuality and diagnose imbalances.
As a spiritual practice it incorporates the Buddhist principles of Vipassana (mindfulness) and the Four Brahamaviharas (Divine states of Mind)- Metta, Karuna, Mudita, Uppekha (loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, equanimity).
Powerful stretches and deep acupressure are applied carefully along as a fluid meditative dance creating a relaxed supported body work that allows a profound sense of space and relaxation, bringing opposites (yin/yang, solar/lunar , masculine/feminine) into union.
Join us for a 10 day tour in Northern Thailand, exploring the Heart of Thai Massage and Traditional Thai Medicine, conscious touch, non-verbal communication, meditation , prayer, ritual, mantras, Reusi Dat Ton ( Thai Yoga) and more.
Meet local healers, spirit doctors, Buddhist teachers and masters!
An unforgettable journey into traditional timeless wisdom.

Awaken to your true nature in the exquisite setting of Mala Dhara in Chiang Mai, Thailand!
Join Aimee as she brings her passion for practices that invite awakening and freedom to this 5 night all inclusive offering. This time away has been designed so you can step gently into the deeper realms of yourself, develop a relationship with who you truly are, and discover a deep connection to your inner wisdom.
This retreat is a deep dive into the systems of the body. Through these body maps we are guided to revelation that every single part of our being has the potential to become aware of itself. The result of such an awakening is a more rich and vibrant living experience; the ultimate promise of yoga! Aimee draws on her love for the profound and life affirming teachings of Tantric Shivaism and her extensive training in many styles of yoga to assist you in the blossoming of this potential within your being.
Our body, and its movement, is an essential experience of the interconnectedness within ourselves and to all of life. This precious connection to the potency of the source power moving through us, as us, can dissolve the inner conflict and fractured parts of ourselves. From this place of wholeness, our inherent creativity and joy is awakened and we can live in a way that feels playful, spontaneous and free. This is our birthright!

Mala Dhara
Mala Dhara Eco Resort & Yoga Retreat Center embraces getting back to basics: organic farming, pure foods, earthen designs and “quality to the source” in all of their choices. The resort is surrounded by the idyllic mountains and rice fields of Northern Thailand. Chiang Mai is considered the more quiet part of Thailand and is famous for its beautiful ancient temples and striking mountain landscapes. So Mala Dhara is the perfect place to immerse yourself in this culturally rich part of Thailand. Or alternatively you may wish to gear right down and be nourished by the resort that has everything you’ll need to rest and reboot.
The Food
Mala Dhara is well known for their fresh produce and delicious menu! But it’s really best to hear about it straight from them…
“At the Mala Dhara Eco Resort, Yoga Retreat center & Organic Farm, we like food, we like eating and we like to share. The Kin Dee Restaurant is the very heart of the Mala Dhara and reflects our attitudes and ethos. We like our food: fun, fresh, local, organic and quality in every way possible. We strive to pour our hearts out, laugh until it hurts and take the source, quality and taste of all of our ingredients seriously.
The Mala Dhara menu changes with the seasons, the harvests and the creative juices flowing through the kitchen. We don’t just accommodate vegetarian and vegan guests with options or alternatives. We prepare vegetarian meals that stand on their own jump off the plate, vie for your attention and delight your senses. There are no weak tofu dishes, bad lighting, and casual browns. The Kin dee Restaurant is not your typical vegetarian restaurant!”
*please let us know dietary requirements at the time of your booking

“Realign with the Rhythms of Nature and Reveal your Radiance”
The Five Elements Yoga Retreat is a time to re-connect with the very essence of your being. You will learn about the Elements that make up our bodies and minds, through the lens of Yoga and Ayurveda: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. When we tap into the wisdom of the Elements, and understand their physical qualities, energetic properties and biological functions, we gain greater insight into the inner workings of ourselves, others, and the world we live in.
In this retreat, you will learn how to identify when an Element is out of balance, and how to come back into optimal alignment, so you can thrive in your life.
We’ll have a discussion on each Element, and then weave the Elemental qualities into practice. There will be journal questions and small group activities to further enhance your integration of the wisdom of working with the model of the Five Elements.
You’ll learn practices to:
Root yourself into your body and into the present moment when you’re feeling
distracted or anxious.
Connect with your emotional landscape, skillfully relating with challenging feelings.
Ignite and maintain your inner fire of creativity and transformation.
Build and move your vital energy to support your nervous system.
Create spaciousness in your body and mind, allowing for a freer expression of your innate potentials.
These simple, yet transformative techniques will remain in your toolkit long after your retreat, providing you with a life-long companion on your journey of self-exploration and growth.
We’ll also have lots of Thailand Adventuring! We’ll have a whole day of visiting an Elephant Sanctuary, where rescued elephants get to live in their natural habitat. We’ll participate in the Loi Krathong and Yi Peng festivities (the biggest annual festivals in Thailand). There will be a day trip to Chiang Mai to explore temples and shops, and so much more!

Yoga entered Emily’s life in 2001, after growing up in the world of classical and contemporary dance, countless hours at the gym, and a steady sprint of perfectionism. She left the dance world and was looking for another outlet to keep her body strong. At the end of one of her first yoga classes, tears streamed down her cheeks and she knew instantly that yoga was so much more than she had anticipated. She had found a healing balm, a warm and supportive container or growth, and the teachings that would help her transform the tremendous pain and trauma of her younger years, into embodied wisdom. She knew early on that she wanted to share this practice. 10 years after her introduction to yoga, she had completed her first teacher training, traveled to India, met her first yoga therapy teacher, Swami Tureyananda, and studied under his close guidance for two months in the mountains of Kodaikanal. After leaving India, she found her way to Portland, Oregon, and four years later, graduated from a yoga therapy program with Sarahjoy Marsh, earning her ERYT-500 hr. certification through Yoga Alliance, as well as her C-IAYT through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She weaves practical application of yoga philosophy, into movement, breath and mindfulness, encouraging a dynamic exploration into one’s true nature. Her teaching is informed by neuroscience and Ayurveda, and her intention is to create a safe and nurturing place for students to learn about themselves, connect, heal and thrive.
Going on my first yoga retreat 10 years ago was a major turning point in my life. So much so, that i now lead yoga adventures for others in beautiful locations around the world. These are truly transformative experiences, and i believe that anyone who enjoys a lifestyle of health and wellness can greatly benefit from a yoga retreat.
There are so many reasons to give yourself a well earned rest in paradise. Practicing yoga regularly ensures you progress and see positive effects very quickly. Going to a new place creates opportunity to see the world, and yourself, in a new light. You’ll actually meditate! as when you have extended free time, it’s a lot easier to do so, with no cell phone buzzing, or boss reminding you about deadlines. On retreats it feels a lot more natural to breathe deeply, and be present in the moment.
Sometimes we have to be far from home to give ourselves the permission to truly relax.
Being on retreat, allows you to listen to your body, rest when you need it, and be free from stress. You’ll eat well without having to do all the work and you’ll replace old habits, with healthy new ones. When you get out of your regular routine for a week, you can replace unhealthy habits with conscious new behaviors that support you being your best self.
You’ll make new friends, undeniably, you will meet individuals with similar interests. Even if you go alone you have a chance to make life long friends. You’ll appreciate home. While a week in paradise is nice, we often come home with a refreshed appreciation for life. You feel happier, healthier and re energized to jump back into your routine with new vigor.
Heck, it might even be fun.
This retreat is specifically designed to help you experience bliss!
We’d love for you to join us for our all -inclusive 7 night retreat in one of the most beautiful destinations in the world – Chiang Mai Thailand.
– Sue xx
YOGA
Yoga classes at Mala Dhara are held in one of two Yoga Shalas: either next to the salt water pool with comfortable fans, soft lighting and cozy atmosphere or in the organic gardens on the edge of the resort with a natural breeze and wide expansive views of the misty mountains and verdant rice fields.
Our retreat will focus on yoga classes that take you on a systematic journey to help you connect to your inner Warrior. Practicing yoga regularly can be challenging, you will wake up at sunrise and begin your morning rituals, which you will learn at the welcome brief before meeting in the yoga shala for your very first yoga session. This morning’s focus will be finding strength through your feet, as the feet are our foundation in life and Yoga. They keep us steady and strong. They keep our poses safe. They support us and will be important to keep them supple and strong to enjoy your time here in beautiful Thailand.
Each day our Yoga Theme will change leaving you with more understanding of how Yoga works to support your life on and off your mat. Each evening you will be guided through a gentle restorative Yin to unleash a whole new reality for the next 7 days.
The Classes will be tailored to all individual needs and everyone is encouraged to progress at their own pace. Our Sunrise Session each morning will energise you for the day, while the late afternoon Sunset Session will help you unwind with more gentle and nourishing postures that focus on healing & letting go.These empowering sessions focus on giving you the skills that you need to confidently practice on your own with confidence when you leave paradise and return home.
NOURISH
Mindful eating not only increases nutrient absorption, but also helps to understand when you’re truly full. A Yoga retreat can present the optimal time for a food reset, as we are already focusing on tuning in to our bodies and asking what we really want. The retreat has it’s own permaculture vegetable gardens and many fruit trees providing delicious vegetarian food during your stay. Healthy food is better than medicine in healing our ill bodies and mind. You will be nourished with three delicious buffet style meals of fruits, juices, soups, salads and other healthy grains and pulses, which are light and easy to digest giving enough physical and mental strength to support your twice daily Yoga practice and to immerse your body, mind, and soul into the therapeutic aspects of yoga. Food for thought. If food and thoughts are clear and pure it helps in making one’s life fulfilled with joy and removes all the barriers such as being unhealthy in life.
TRANSFORMATION WORKSHOPS
Each afternoon Sue will take you through heart-to-heart sessions, you will receive next-level personal growth tools, learn about the yogic lifestyle, receive guidance for your personal practice and discover ways to implement healthy & balanced routines into your daily life.
We will also introduce and demystify some of the secret practices of Yoga
that truly transform lives: Yoga Nidra, working with Chakras, Ayurveda,
the power of vibration and sound healing and discuss Yogic Philosophy.
We address topics like healthy diet & eating patterns, daily rituals that
